The Tanglefoot Latex Tree Pruning Sealer is an excellent replacement for asphalt and tar based pruning sealers. The latex pruning sealer is an all weather formula, which provides long-lasting elastic coating on tree wounds. The pruning sealant helps prevent excessive sap flow and excludes moisture penetration while the wound heals. The pruning treatment also helps reduce the attraction many insects have to open exposed wounds.
When pruning your tree it is important to prune close to the bark collar, but not cut through the collar. Make sharp clean cuts and always sanitize your pruning tools after each branch, so as not to spread fungal or bacterial infections. It is best to prune trees in the early spring or in the fall, or during periods of lower sap flow.
