Robinia neomexicana: New Mexico Locust Seeds
Packet contains 40 seeds; Zones 7-10 : Grows to 20 ft. The New Mexico Locust is a rare spiny shrub or small tree that can grow to heights of 20 ft or more especially if trained/shaped to a single trunk. A member of the Pea Family and native to the southwestern and southeastern area of the United States, the New Mexican Locust produces fragrant, exceptionally pretty pink clustered flowers in the form of showy hanging racemes up to 7 inches long. The flower colour can range from white, pale pink, rose, pale rose, purplish pink to deep red. Branches have spines and leaves are grayish in colour. The flowers open from May to June. We think this is can be an exceptional little flowering specimen, especially if pinched/trained to a single trunk, suitable for untended tough southwestern conditions. It will form large thorny flowering thickets/barriers if left to naturalize.
