Japanese Black Pine is a widely planted ornamental pine. Shears best of any pine, bright green slightly twisted needles. Often irregular in habit with a curved trunk. Very popular bonsai tree and ideal for seashore planting.
When choosing a location, keep in mind that the Japanese Black Pine has a fast growth rate. Grows up to 80 feet in height and 30 to 40 feet in spread. It can be planted in zones 5 to 8. Prefers full sun and fertile, moist soil. It will tolerate drought, heat, sandy soil and salt spray.

Scarification: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours
Stratification: Cold stratify for 60 days
Germination: Sow seed 1/8 inch deep, tamp the soil, mulch the seed bed
