The Eastern Redbud is a small, handsome, multi-stemmed tree with red buds opening into purplish-pink flowers before leaf break in spring. Widely planted and native to the eastern United States. The heart shaped leaves emerge as purple then turn to green and in the fall, to yellow. A pretty tree for a garden border.
When choosing a location, keep in mind that the Eastern Redbud grows up to 25 feet in height and 25 feet in spread. It can be planted in zones 5 to 9. Prefers full sun and moist, well-drained soil and fares poorly in wet sites.
