The European Hornbeam is said to be one of the finest landscape trees; excellent for groupings, hedges or screens. Upright oval habit when mature. Narrow branches radiate upwards from the central trunk, creating a lovely winter silhouette. Dark green foliage, yellow fall color. A neat and manageable tree with smooth, gray bark. Great for urban areas!
When choosing a location, keep in mind that the European Hornbeam has a slow to moderate growth rate. It grows up to 60 feet in height and 30 feet in spread. It can be planted in zones 4 to 7. Prefers full sun to light shade and moist, well-drained soil. Tolerates most soils and urban areas.
