The Oriental Ash is native to China. It has lovely small white flowers that are borne in 4-inch clusters. It has 1/4-inch orange berries that are great for adding a splash of colour to a landscape and for attracting birds. Best used as a specimen tree. A beautiful shade tree!
When choosing a location, keep in mind that the Oriental Ash has a rapid growth rate. It grows up to 30 feet in height and 20 feet in spread. It can be planted in zones 4 to 8. Prefers full sun and moist, acidic soil.
How To Start These Seeds:
Scarification: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours
Stratification: Cold stratify for 90 days
Germination: Sow seed 1/4 inch deep, keep moist, mulch the seed bed, cover seedbed with some shade, can be sown outdoors in the fall for spring germination.
