The Pekin Lilac is a small tree lilac with tiny creamy white blooms in densely crowded clusters of panicles with an unusual fragrance. Vase shaped and multitrunked. Golden bark is sometimes exfoliating and adds to the ornamental qualities of this tree.
When choosing a location, keep in mind that the Pekin Lilac has a fast growth rate. It grows up to 20 feet in height and 15 feet in spread. It can be planted in zones 3 to 7. Prefers full sun and fertile, moist soil.
How To Start These Seeds:
Scarification: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours
Stratification: Warm stratify for 60 days, cold stratify for 60 days (warm stratification may not be necessary)
Germination: Sow seed 1/16 inch deep, keep moist, mulch the seed bed, cover seedbed with some shade
Other: Sow outdoors in the fall for spring germination.
