Scots Pine is a conical tree when young, and becomes a flat-topped, spreading tree with age. Can be very attractive when mature, almost as wide as it is tall with horizontal branching habit. Also called the Scotch Pine. These pines work well as a specimen tree in a small garden or for a large landscape, plant in groups to create a natural effect.
When choosing a location, keep in mind that the Scots pine has a fast growth rate. Grows up to 50 feet in height and 30 to 40 feet in spread. It can be planted in zones 2 to 8. It requires full sun and well-drained soil.
