The Sea Buckthorn has narrow green leaves and thorns. Bears bright orange berries clustered along branches which persist throughout winter. Widely grown in Russia and elsewhere. Said to have medicinal properties. A very interesting tree when in fruit.
When choosing a location, keep in mind that the Sea Burckthorn has a medium growth rate. It grows up to 25 feet in height and 30 feet in spread. It can be planted in zones 3 to 7. Adapts to a wide range of soil types and has good cold hardiness.
How To Start These Seeds:
Scarification: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours
Stratification: Cold stratify for 90 days
Germination: Sow seed 1/4 inch deep, tamp the soil, keep moist, mulch the seed bed
