May be multitrunked; Dirr says the bark is probably the handsomest of the genus, mottled with gray, orange, and rich brown; dark green leaves, 1-2 1/2" x 2/3-1 1/8"; native to central and eastern China.
How To Start These Seeds:
Scarification: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours.
Stratification: cold stratify for 60 days.
Germination: sow seed 1/4" deep, tamp the soil, mulch the seed bed.
Other: stratification improves germination, but is not required.
